Every DWG begins with an ASCII version code. AC1032 means the drawing was written by AutoCAD 2018 through 2023. AC1036 covers 2024 and later. AC1027 is the 2013-2017 family, AC1024 is 2010-2012, and AC1021 is 2007-2009.
AutoCAD will not open a drawing newer than its own release, which is why ‘the file will not open’ is so often a version problem rather than a corrupt file. Down-save the drawing, or hand the recipient a DXF.
CAD Inspect reads those six bytes and prints the release name.
Where this came from
Notes like this one come out of the file library rather than out of a release schedule. The pages linked above are the entries that were being worked on when the note was written, and those entries are rebuilt with each release of the toolset, so a note can go out of date in a way a format page does not.
When that happens the note stays where it is and gets a correction at the bottom rather than being rewritten, because the point of most of these notes is the order things were tried in. The editors who write them are the ones who maintain the catalogue.
