One page per format, and every page starts with the header. Three families:
- Design & graphics — the family this domain has always been about: PSD, PSB, AI, EPS, SVG, CDR, INDD, SKP, DWG, camera raw, DDS, TGA, EXR.
- Documents & containers — PDF, DOCX, XLSX, PPTX, ODT, EPUB, ISO, DMG and the archive formats around them.
- Data & application internals — the files a programmer opens rather than a viewer: SQLite, DBF, DLL, CLASS, JAR, APK, OST, WASM.
New pages go up weekly. If a format is missing, the mailbag address is [email protected].
How the library is arranged
Every entry sits in one of the families listed above. A family is a statement about what a file carries — a page description, an image, a drawing, a compressed archive — and not about which application wrote it, which is why files from one application can end up in more than one family.
Each entry carries the header the library has seen in a real file, the review date of the last check, and the name of the editor who made it. Entries where the header has not been seen in a real file are marked on the page instead of being left out, so the count of entries in a family is the count of what the library covers, not the count of what it is confident about.
